Essentials in Camping Gear and Equipment

So you’ve decided to pack up the car and head out into the wilderness to catch some fresh air and do a little camping.  Well there are a few things to be considered when preparing for such an excursion such as the camping equipment that are a must.  Depending on the time of year and the length of trip, there are a number of camping supplies that are necessary additions so that your camping trip is a success.  These camping essentials range from a reliable outdoor tent to an affordable buck knife.

Unless you are planning on eating peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for the length of your camping trip, the first item that is a must is a camping stove.  A portable propane camping stove is usually a two-burner device that can be set up in a matter of minutes and will allow you to cook all of your campsite meals.

The stove is a smart thing to bring simply because it allows you to do things like boil hot water for instant coffee, soups, and other items.  Also, there is nothing better than waking up in the morning to the smell of bacon, which you couldn’t cook if you didn’t bring along your trusty camping stove.  So first things first, pack the stove.

The second item on the list for outdoor gear that are a must is a reliable tent that is designed for the outdoors.  Along with a tent, it is probably a smart idea to bring a tarp as well so you have something to put down underneath the tent.  Most tents can handle the outdoors but sometimes there can be damp mornings and occasionally some rain, so it is a good idea to put a tarp down underneath your tent to avoid and seepage.  There is nothing worse than waking up in the morning in a wet sleeping bag.  That can make for a horrible camping experience.

Another item on your list of essentials should be a buck knife or some sort of large sheathed knife.  Buying affordable buck knives is pretty easy, there is a huge selection of them at almost every sporting goods store.  The buck knife is a nice tool to carry with you on your camping trip because you can use it to cut rope, gut fish, and any other task that requires a sharp blade.

The last few things that are nice additions to any camping trip are potable water, trash bags, and duct tape.  Bringing a couple gallons of water along for the ride is definitely a necessary item.  You don’t want to have to boil lake water or carry water back from a stream to cook food or drink and having potable water on hand is the best way to avoid this problem.

Trash bags are good to have to collect all of the trash that you will accumulate at the site.  The duct tape is good for taping the bags up onto trees so little critters and varmints that are running around don’t get into your food and trash during the night.  Duct tape is also good for almost anything.  It can temporarily fix a hole in a boat, repair a broken fishing rod, or be used as a bandage should you cut yourself with your buck knife.

These supplies listed above are some of the necessary items for anyone looking to get out into the wild for a weekend.  I would encourage anyone who is going camping to make sure that they have these items packed and ready to go.  I hope this article has been of some help and I wish good luck to everyone on your future camping excursions!
